I feel like at the end of every weekend, I wonder where the time went and what I did with it. On Saturday, I got up and ran early with the group, then hit the grocery store on the way home. Once home, I cleaned, showered, ate, and cleaned some more. I had some friends over to eat pizza and drink beer, and ended up drinking much more than I should have. And so Sunday was a blur of couch lounging and napping.
Now, I’m not a huge drinker. During the week, I rarely have a drink, and usually I will have two or three beers on a Saturday night, and one or two on a Sunday. My husband and I have been brewing our own beer for a little over a year, and this was the first time we kegged it rather than bottling it. The beer was dark and smoky, and we infused it with chipotle peppers to give it a little spice. It was delicious, as was the pizza.
This morning, however, I woke up and felt like a heaping pile of turds. I lay on the couch, watched old episodes of Buffy on Netflix, drank water, and tried not to die. I ate dry toast, which was awesome, and I didn’t get dressed all day. I don’t remember the last time I had a day like this–thankfully, because I like productive weekends much better! After lunch, I took a nap, and when I woke up I felt about a thousand times better. I was even able to actually cook dinner!
One thing to know about me is that I have an unhealthy (or perhaps healthy?) obsession with cookbooks. Particularly vegetarian and vegan cookbooks. I aim to eat vegetarian about 80 to 90 percent of the time, although I do eat fish once or twice a week. But I love a good vegetarian recipe, and today I used a new favorite book that I received for Christmas–Isa Does It by Isa Chandra Moskowitz. I have a couple of her cookbooks and she is awesome.
Today I made a recipe from this book that I made once before. It’s easy, comforting, and contains things I tend to keep on-hand in the house. Perfect! Plus, the ideal meal on which to test out my new homemade hot sauce. The stew contains lentils, quinoa, carrots, celery, garlic, onion, and various herbs and spices. It turned out better this time than the first time I made it, and I now have leftovers for the week. Leftovers rock.
And I’m happy to report that the hot sauce turned out great! It’s not super spicy so I used a fair amount, but it has great flavor. I’m excited to use it on all kinds of meals moving forward!
Any tips on the best way to get over a hangover quickly?
Luckily I don’t drink enough to get hangovers more than two or three times a year, but when I do it’s the worst thing ever!

I actually read them like regular books, for fun. I have probably made about 5% of the total recipes I own, and I tend to make the same ones over and over again!
