My marathon is one week from today. That means that my mileage has been slowly decreasing to allow my body time to recover and rest so it can be at its best for the race. This week, I ran 25 miles–next week I will run more than that in one day.
So what did I do yesterday after my last long run, which ended up being about 10 miles? I went out for a drink… which turned into three drinks… which turned into pizza and more drinks. Evidently I do not make my best decisions after drinking beer.
However, we needed to eat the pizza to make sure that it was delicious enough to eat next Saturday night for our pre-marathon meal. It was. We were also celebrating Ben getting a new position and a raise at work. Legitimate reasons.
We started out at Toxic Brew, a brewery in Dayton’s Oregon District. It was good. Then we walked over to Warped Wing, another brewery. It was REALLY good. While drinking Warped Wing beer, we decided that pizza was in order for the aforementioned reasons. The pizza place that we wanted to try was about 1.5 miles away, so we decided to walk. The walk there was fairly standard, and once we got to the pizza place (Dewey’s–a local chain) we found seats at the bar so we didn’t have to wait for a table. We ended up getting a large pizza with half Wild Mushroom topping, and half Killer Veggie topping. It was amazing, and will be gracing my piehole with its presence next weekend for sure. Ben decided it would be a good idea for him to drink two more beers here, which resulted in a very interesting walk back.
I don’t remember all of the conversations we had because there were so many, but I do remember that he was pretty drunk, and it was a good thing I was walking with him or he would have probably walked out in front of a car or something equally stupid. But it was pretty entertaining. When we got home, Ben passed out in bed and I ate cake and watched Buffy.
Originally, I was planning on making risotto-stuffed mushrooms last night, plus making many things with our leftover spent grain from last weekend’s beer-making shenanigans. I guess I will be doing all those things today instead!
Do you ever go out for one drink, only to have it turn into an impromptu night out?
It should be noted, for the record, that we were home by 9. We are party animals.
